Mullumbimby local Jordy comes from generations of cattle farmers, but his own approach to farming has taken a slightly different path. After starting out with horses, cattle and fencing, Jordy headed north to work on a large conventional cattle station near the Gulf of Carpentaria. When he first arrived at The Farm, helping out with fencing and practical jobs, he admits he “had no idea what a cell graze was”. It didn’t take long for that to change. Working alongside The Farm’s growers and producers shifted his thinking towards regenerative grazing and a much more connected view of soil, animal and human health.

In 2023, that thinking became Proud Pastures — Jordy’s own grass-fed cattle business. Depending on the season, he runs around 30–50 cattle using 24–48 hour cell grazing, moving them carefully across the paddocks to give pasture time to recover and regenerate. His cattle work alongside other systems at The Farm, including Oliver’s Hens, with each playing a role in building healthier soils and stronger pastures. Having experienced the chemical dependence of conventional farming firsthand, Jordy is determined to show there’s another way. As he puts it, “The system is not so broken that we can’t fix it — but what does need changing is mindsets.”

You’ll usually find Jordy somewhere around The Farm on Roy, his horse, with Bo and new pup Mac close behind. Alongside Proud Pastures, he helps keep The Farm ticking — managing grazing systems, restoring paddocks and pastures, caring for animals, fixing what needs fixing and tackling whatever the day throws at him. He reckons farmers are often missing one of three things: time, money or knowledge. Jordy is particularly passionate about sharing that last one, helping others see that regenerative farming isn’t just a nice idea — it can work in practice. Stubborn, practical and big-hearted, his philosophy is simple: “I see nothing as so broken you can’t fix it.”
